150 Steps: Oh wow!


Massive hurricane? Check. No light, power, phone, Internet or electricity for four days? Check. Switching to a new job? Check. Adopting a baby in the space of 48 hours? Sure! Why the hell not! Clearly, the Universe has a twisted sense of humor.

More details coming soon but the adoption journey is over and the journey as parents and a family begins today.

In the Present Moment: insomnia, part 2

We settle into our very comfy king size bed rather late last evening...or rather - very early this morning. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1:00 a.m. Why such a stupid hour on a school night? Because Chris didn't make it home until 9:30 last evening after working a ridiculously long day. "My plan of getting out of my office by 6:00 p.m. from now on got derailed on the first day of implementation!" Chris laments in a phone call to me at 7:30 p.m. Gotta love his job. In the Present Moment: Not much to say

6:09 a.m. Awake. I've actually been awake since 5:42 and probably should have hauled my butt to the gym then, but I was feeling SO groggy and unmotivated... Never shut down my laptop last evening so here I am. But the thing is...I just don't have a whole lot to say. So, what the hell am I doing here? Trying to work up the energy and motivation to head to the gym. Up until this past Monday I had actually been to the gym for 18 consecutive days and would have made it 19 on Monday except that I overslept, brought my gym clothes with me to work with a plan to hit the treadmill after work, but then got stuck working late. By the time I left my office it was after 8:30 p.m. and I just cannot exercise that late in the evening. Wakes me right up. So, here I am today with the time to work out, at the time of day when I prefer working out, but not much energy. In part, it's because I failed to follow my regular routine, which involves laying out my clothes the night...

In the Present Moment: Let's get physical

No. I'm not talking about the Olivia Newton John song (although apparently one of my friends on  Facebook  had that rolling around in her head for days and days...and now you will, too...) I'm talking about a real physical - like at a doctor's office. Like the thing that I'm getting done in two hours. Urgh . As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'm 41 years old and not exactly svelte. These last few years of fund raising have seen my stress level - and my eating habits - go a bit crazy. I'm not looking forward to this doctor's appointment. And seeing the number on the scale. And learning my current cholesterol level. (Please be good! Please be good!) Sigh. But the adoption folks say I gotta get it done...so I'm getting it done. Blood work ( aaaiiieeeeee ... needles!!!) and all. Gotta make sure I'm healthy enough to raise the  Schmoopie . "Let's get physical - physical!! I wanna get physical!!..." Wish me luck...
