In the Present Moment: Putting some skin in the game...my version

After two months of discussions, online searches, research, and more, we're putting some skin in the game and officially getting things rolling.

The above is part of a post left by Chris on his blog 150 Steps...an Adoption Journey.

 While we have been discussing and planning and worrying and breathing and not breathing and laughing...now we're getting serious. We're moving ahead. Committing to action.

 We're sending in the application for our Home Study!

 This all suddenly feels real. It's going to happen. An application completed, references sought, a check written....

 And awwwaaaaaayyyyy we go...

An interesting incident from January 2012 when I was still a new mom... We are in line at the grocery store, my five month-old daughter sound asleep in her baby carrier on the cart and me watching the woman in front of us unloading her cart's contents onto the belt.  The woman is blonde, blue-eyed, petite, and pretty. In the Present Moment: insomnia, part 2

We settle into our very comfy king size bed rather late last evening...or rather - very early this morning. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1:00 a.m. Why such a stupid hour on a school night? Because Chris didn't make it home until 9:30 last evening after working a ridiculously long day. "My plan of getting out of my office by 6:00 p.m. from now on got derailed on the first day of implementation!" Chris laments in a phone call to me at 7:30 p.m. Gotta love his job. So I stay up until he arrives home. We have a good conversation and then we settle down to watch the episode of"House" that has been recorded on the  DVR . "You awake enough to watch 'Castle'?" Chris asks at the conclusion of "House." "Sure!" I trill enthusiastically, looking forward to 48 minutes of Nathan  Fillion's  "Castle" making numerous clever remarks to  Stana   Katic's "Beckett." 150 Steps: How do you get to Carnegie Hall?

Say it with me now...practice practice practice. I think that's the overarching mission of our cats right now -- to give us as much practice as possible in the art of parenting and living with interrupted nights' sleep before we ever get around to having Plus One join our family. 19-year old Annabel, also known as the Grey Bullet, routinely starts howling at 4AM every night. It's not that she's hungry. It's not that she's hurt. Basically, she's awake and wants attention. Plus, if she crouches at the head of the stairs, the reverberations down the stairwell are positively operatic.
